Samson - The Resistance Leader

"Don't you know that the Philistines are rulers over us?" (Judges15:11). What defeatism. Is this God's people collaborating with the enemy? So God brings a Nazarite onto the scene, Samson, meaning "Little Sun" or "Sunshine". Samson's feats of strength in battle are legend, as time and time again "the spirit of the Lord came upon him".

O how this world needs leaders like Samson to resist the devil, to stand against the powers of greed, selfishness, idolatry and unrighteousness that "occupy" us.

But Samson succumbed to temptation himself. In touching the lion, he broke his Nazarite vow of purity, in taking a Philistine wife, he broke his vow of sanctification, and finally in cutting his hair he broke his vow of dedication to God. But after all that, blinded and enslaved, in the end he turns back to God, calling out "Lord God remember me I pray", and God did remember him. What a man, what a God.
