Members Ministries #3

Having been challenged last Sunday about seeing Jesus in the needy, it would be good to praise God for some of our quiet achievers.
Thank God for:-
  • the bread company donations that are collected and distributed regularly by some of our ladies.
  • the supporters of Azeline House special accommodation for girls; for financial, spiritual, moral, emotional and physical needs.
  • the Temple Day offering, especially the ministers distribution of the Emergency Welfare Fund offering.
  • contributors to the casserole "bank".
  • Heathmont Inter-Church Help volunteers. Please remember the box in the foyer for donations of food.
  • Remember too the collection box for our missionaries’ Christmas Hamper.
A short list like this can only give a hint of the depth of these ministries.  If you have or know some-one with a special need, or would like to help in any way, call the office or any of the Church's pastoral carers.

Temptation - "Want" Vs "Ought"

C.S.Lewis suggests that Satan does not tempt us with repulsive things, but rather temptation offers the subtle choices between what we want to do and what we ought to do (" The Screwtape Letters "). When God created the world, He saw that it was good. The devil, being less than God, does not create; rather his work is of pale imitations and distortions of God's good works. God's will is for our proper, moderated care, use and enjoyment of His creation. But as our natural wills are not fully aligned with God's, we are constantly tempted toward improper, immoderate, uncaring misuse of His good gifts. Self-respect, necessary for our growth as children of God, when used as an 'end' instead of a 'means', becomes pride. Self-love, the model of our love of others, misguided, becomes selfishness. The Joy of the Lord is my Strength

The joy of the Lord is not real if we are chasing around trying to find the most "joyful" church or seeking it in lively music. Rather, joy is a spiritual fruit: ie. it is the result of spiritual growth. As we open more and more parts of our lives to God's graceful redemption, allowing Him to sanctify all aspects of our being, so His joy will grow in us. Out of that real joy will come praise and song, not the other way round.
